| Quick question |
[09 Nov 2009|05:34pm] |
I've been somewhat out of the loop for a while the last couple of years - I was wondering what is the average price for a feast these days, and how much do people consider too much?
Thanks
Kit

| On The Edge of the forest |
[24 Feb 2009|10:08am] |
Family friendly Fighter's Practise site fee 10 €
The Shire of Dreichen is proud to anounce that after a long time of despair we are finally ready to fight once again. Well, not entirely ready I am told, so we need to practise the fine skills of war and peace. thus
All those gentles who are prevented from seeking glory on the battlefields of Doublewars this year, may find glory of a different Kind at the fighter's practise in this still fair Shire Drei Eichen. All are invited to share their skills and knowledge with the evergrowing army of drei Eichen. (at last count: 4)
at the the edge of the forest Kottenforst (http://tinyurl.com/edgeoftheforest) close to the lands where Siegfried slew Fafnir.
15th trough 17th of May
The site is open starting Friday 1500 and the event will begin with a Friday Night Firefight. We will provide Traveler's Fare of some substance on the evening.
Saturday will be a day of training and sharing. The guys tell me they are planning something fancy and new for the actual fighting.
There will also be a massage workshop. This means there will be a class for those who want to learn some of that skill by a certified Oesteopath and Physiotherapist. But of course there will also be the need for *subjects*
There will also be a sewing circle and some space set aside (though not hidden) for bards and musicians.
We are still considering a revival of the Get the Grail tournament.
We will provide breakfast (if not in great style as the site fee will be 10€ per adult) on Saturday and sunday and we will certainly make sure that nobody dies of starvation during the day BUT the fare will be simple and not always entirely P (most likely).
Saturday evening we are planning a grand barbeque. We will not provide the meat. Either you bring some yourselves (cooling should be possible during the day)or you may *order* some once the event website is up which should be happening at the beginning of next week (sorry we are all new to this) there will be some choices and you will have to prepay if you go this way, but we thought this way we can accommodate the different lifestyles best.
Sunday the site will close around 1400 and there should still be some time for fights.
The Site is wet.
You can pitch your tent on site (but we would LOVE to get your footprint with the reservation)
We would love as many people to reserve and also pay in advance 10€e per ADULT. How this will be done and to what account, will be posted on the event site. But you can always approach the event stewart at traumspindel@gmail.com
Also please let us know how many children are going to attend. There is a playground on site and children are very welcome. (if your kid is a *heavy* eater and you can afford it we will welcome donations on site but we need to know how many are coming)
There will be the possibilty of limited crash space please let us know in advance.
We hope to see you there. It will be great.
Sorry if this is a bit cumbersome, but we and particularly I am new to this.
Please direct any questions (english or german) to me Elisande but do use the account traumspindel@gmail.com so nothing gets lost

Please excuse a shameless plug for those interested, as the SCA is filled with folks that enjoy reading books...
http://community.livejournal.com/historybookclub/
I made a new LJ community for those of us who like to read and make discussions on historical non-fiction and historical fantasy books - especially books in period for the SCA - as I could not find an appropriate community to otherwise join for such a thing.
If you are interested, please join and share your comments about your favorite history books!

Greetings!
I will be moving with my family to RAF Croughton at the end of Oct/beginning of November. What I was wondering is if anyone that is stationed at Croughton or lives nearby, knows which local group you are near. I like to find out what group I'll be moving too. Thanks!

On the 1st of September we want to hike!
Start is on Saturday at 12:00 in Altdorf, that’s a village near Nuremberg, which can be reached by train.
We will hike ca. 6.5 km – that’s normally 2,5 hours, but we aren’t in a hurry, so the plan is to be back in Altdorf at around 17:00.
That’s some information about the tour: http://www.nordbayern.de/ausflug_artikel.asp?art=7521&kat=192
Here’s the important point: We'll try to walk in period garb and equipment as much as it is possible – no visible mundane stuff, no polyester. Please hide modern equipment as perfect as possible, the hike shall be an experiment in reenactment.
Nethertheless, as one exception, I'd highly (!!) recommend good boots. I mean real solid ones, as we will cross a small river and walk through mud and over trees. After the hiking tour we will go by train (or by car, if yours is in Altdorf) to the Jugendfarm in Erlangen: http://jugendfarm-er.de/service.html
We can stay there overnight and will have a BBQ, organised by the wonderful Lady Magdalena Grace Vane. We will collect an amount of money for food and the house, depending on the number of participants and the possibilities of every one. If you think, that this sounds good and interesting and/or have further questions, please get in contact with me – we are looking forward to seeing you!

Greetings!
I have the potential possibility of moving from where I'm at now (Cincinnati, OH, USA) to the London Stansted area or Cambridge on business if everything works out so I have a few questions if you don't mind... Is this Thamesreach still, or another group to the north? How often are events locally, or easy to get to in nearby Europe without a car? Are there rapier practices in these areas?
Thanks much,

It's taken a while to come up with characterisation, however this is the first version I've come up with, based on rummaging through my own book collection.
Guy de Dinan, Seigneur of Trevarouac, Komes of Cavalry
Guy is a Breton mercenary born in 1146 in Dinan to a merchant family. Armed with his bow and sword, the ability to write and count and his wits, Guy initially set off for the Outremer kingdoms but only got as far as Constantinople before taking up service for Manuel Comnenus. Since then he’s led an adventurous life serving with the Byzantines, and for a couple of years, Nur Al-Din and his nephew, earning a hatred for Franks and a deep interest in Arabic culture, acquitting many books of Arab philosophy, history art and mathematics from a generous Yusuf Salah al-Din.
A brief return home to Brittany earned deep unpopularity after joining in the rebellion against Henry II of England and a swift return to Constantinople and the lure of Manuel’s jousting tournaments. Mutual distrust of the Outremer knights see him fighting as an Illiarch in the Byzantine cavalry in the campaign against the Seljuks.
Guy earned fame for dismounting his cavalry and leading them in repeated charges and feints on the slopes of the pass of Myriokephalon, helping keep open the pass to let survivors out of the trap. He was awarded the rank of Komes to lead mixed cavalry in constant skirmishes throughout the next year.
Guy is now in Thamesreach to extol the continued strength and prowess of Byzantium and recruit more fighters to fight for the glory of the Roman Empire. He now occupies his time re-fighting old battles, corresponding with Arab friends, collecting tomes and treatises, and brewing mead.

| Contact made - thanks! |

I've successfully managed to contact both goncalves and gilbere, and no-one is now due to arrive and have their weapons confiscated. :) Many thanks to those who helped!

| Need to contact someone at DW |
[18 May 2007|05:57pm] |
Sorry to shotgun like this, but I urgently need to get a message to goncalves and/or gilbere, who are both at Double Wars at present. If anyone can either pass a message on or can put me in touch with someone who can then I'd be very grateful. We're having fun and games with weapons permits for rapiers and I don't want him to arrive in Keflavik and have his kit impounded.

| Event Report -- Ma'ale Giborim Shire 8th Night |
[24 Dec 2006|09:53am] |
|
My lords and ladies, I am happy to report to you that our Shire 8th night (or Shushan Channuka) event went very well. We held the event after Shabbat last night at the home of Lord Alter fun Reiss and Lady Naomi bas Yehezkel. Attendance was good we had about 20 people present, including Mistress Sheara Bat Shlomo of the Barony March of the Debatable Lands in the Sylvan kingdom Of AEthelmearc. She has been an honorary member of our shire for some time and this was her first visit to our fair lands. In addition former a former member who has now returned to England made an appearance as she was visiting.
The feast was on a Greek theme in honor of Channuka, and for a first time in our shire was a dairy based. We featured various forms of Latkes, some very nice cheese and olives and the like. As well as various side dishes and a very nice Saint Peter's Fish. Dinner was prepared by my Lady Wife (Giavonoa Lupperelli)
Lady Sheara presented a greeting for the King and Queen of AEthelmarc.
In addition our new Seneschal Lady Naomi recognized the service of myself as outgoing seneschal and her Parents Charles and Anne of Lorraine for their hospitality with gifts of Byzantine oil lamps.
Our next event will be on Purim and as always you are all welcome.
